The Middle East‘s solar-storage market has entered an “era of mega deals” in 2026.
On May 21, Sungrow signed with Masdar to supply 7.5GWh of liquid-cooled storage and 2.6GW of PV inverters for the UAE’s Round‑The‑Clock (RTC) renewable energy project. This follows Sungrow‘s 7.8GWh project in Saudi Arabia—the world‘s largest storage project at the time. Together, these two mega projects total over 15GWh.

Saudi Arabia is also accelerating. On April 22, the Saudi Power Procurement Company launched the pre‑qualification for its second group of BESS projects—six projects totaling 3GW/12GWh, each 500MW/2000MWh to be developed under a BOO model. According to DNV, renewable capacity in MENA is expected to double to 310GW by 2027, with solar alone reaching 860GW by 2040. The total project pipeline in the region has already exceeded 200GW.
