The 300MW Sauran project completed its first concrete pour on July 1, entering full-scale construction. As the country‘s largest “PV+storage” integrated project, total investment exceeds $200 million, with annual generation of over 600 million kWh. The project uses a 300MW PV + 90MW/360MWh storage configuration, targeting grid connection by the end of 2026.
Uzbekistan is advancing in parallel. The President announced at TIIF that renewables will account for 54% of power generation by 2030. The EBRD has provided $142 million in financing for a 1GW PV + 1,336MWh storage project. Uzbekistan has attracted nearly $6 billion in green energy FDI and plans another $4 billion for grid upgrades.
Extreme cold down to -30°C in winter, long logistics lead times, and weak grid infrastructure. Standard equipment suffers significant performance loss in low temperatures – batteries fail to charge properly, inverters struggle to start.
