In a significant move to accelerate global clean energy adoption, a major 1.5GW solar project in Abu Dhabi, UAE, has moved into the implementation phase. LONGi Green Energy Technology, a world-leading solar technology company, will supply 1.1GW of its high-efficiency back-contact (BC) modules, Hi-MO 9, for the landmark PV4 Al Hazna project.
This partnership, solidified in Beijing between LONGi Chairman and President Zhong Baoshen, PowerChina, and global energy giant Engie, marks a decisive step following a framework agreement signed in Paris in May. It underscores a deepening collaboration to drive high-quality development in the renewable sector.
Powering the Energy Transition in a Key Market
As a major oil producer actively diversifying its energy mix, the UAE represents a critical market for solar innovation. The Al Hazna project, located on the eastern Arabian Peninsula, is situated in a challenging tropical desert climate with extreme summer temperatures and volatile conditions.
LONGi’s Hi-MO 9 modules, the flagship product of its BC portfolio built on HPBC 2.0 technology, were selected for their superior all-around power generation performance. They are specifically engineered to deliver high efficiency and reliable output under complex, high-stress environmental conditions such as intense heat and uneven solar irradiance.
“Based on our existing cooperation, we look forward to establishing a long-term and stable strategic partnership with PowerChina and Engie,” said Zhong Baoshen. “By leveraging our respective strengths in project development, technological innovation, and engineering implementation, we aim to jointly advance key projects and continue leading the global clean energy transition.”
BC Technology: Setting a New Global Standard for Utility-Scale Projects
This 1.1GW order is more than a major shipment; it is a powerful validation of BC technology’s value for large-scale, high-impact power plants. From technological innovation to real-world deployment, LONGi’s BC platform is driving a global wave of efficiency upgrades and value creation. The Al Hazna project will not only significantly expand the Middle East’s clean energy capacity but is also poised to establish a new global benchmark for high-quality, high-performance utility-scale solar plants.
The collaboration exemplifies how complementary strengths can advance the global energy revolution, demonstrating the powerful application of BC technology across diverse and demanding scenarios worldwide.
